| The ECU uses "safety boost" to protect the engine. As mentioned it is not just code that lowers boost it pulls timing and richens the fuel map to keep from detonation. Anything that bypasses the safe mode could lead to engine damage at worst or at least waste a lot of expensive fuel. Some aftermarket chips use the same timing and fuel maps for the safe mode as for regular mode. This is the only way around ever having it go into safety mode but it really does not seem wise from a survival viewpoint. I once bought a tank of premium from BP that turned out not to be. The car was N/A and pinged horribly. I had to drive very carefully till I used enough to put the real stuff in. I shudder to think what would have happened if I been turboed and boosting hard. If it is really running the knock maps/safety boost then you need to find out why. If you get no codes, how do you know it is doing it? The ECU itself could have issues too. KKrofft
